Patience and a Gracious Receiver from the July 2008
Newsletter
A funny thing happened to me about eight weeks ago as my
husband Keith and I were picking up our grandson from day
care. One of Shawn's little friends yelled out to me, "I
lost my tooth, it's my first tooth." I had turned around to
acknowledge his glee, took a few steps backwards, landed in
a hole, over I went, then off to the doctor and the end
result...a fractured bone in my foot.
I am slowly healing according to the doctor and have been
told to be in the "hobble and rest" mode. However, right
after it happened, I had a few pity parties, had very
limited access to my computer until recently, had felt house
bound and pretty helpless but I soon realized that there is
a purpose for everything, even my fractured foot. It was
time to look inward and get some new perspective on things
in my life.
I believe that there are two messages I am re-learning right
now. One is definitely patience and the other is how to be a
"gracious receiver". Accepting with gratitude all that is
being done for me, all the love that is given to me, the
phone calls and cards relaying get well wishes, and the
healing prayers people are sending my way. All have been
truly appreciated.
We can all be great givers but being a "gracious receiver"
is hard work. So my message today is to embrace the simplest
of gifts given by another or the Creator...a smile, a kind
word, a helping hand. Enjoy the little bird chirping happily
outside your window, enjoy watching the beautiful butterfly
that crosses your path, take a walk and breathe in
everything that is around you. Graciously receive what comes
your way. They truly all have special meaning, they cross
our path for a reason...
Sending you love and light always,
Hetty
